Year 8 Tuckshop  Project

Written Proposal to the School Governors

a)  Practical Details:   What will a tuck shop sell? Who will staff it? Who will look after the money? What hours/times will it be open for.

b) What are the profits of the tuck shop going to be spent on?  Recreational and Play equipment.

c) What are the potential problems.  litter, diet and health, students having money on them that they might lose, possible theft of money from the tuckshop.   How are you going to respond to these issues.

d) What are the benefits to students? Experience in running a small business. Better use of break times because of good play and sports equipment.

Survey Form for the Class

a) Design a survey form using tables in word that you can use to find out the two favourite sweet snacks, two favourite savoury snacks, and two favourite drinks.   Also find out how much students would be willing to spend a day on snack foods.

b) Work out a system for analysing these results.  Perhaps a product would get one point for being a second favourite and two points for being the first favourite, and you would stock the five most popular products in each category.

Profit and Loss Spreadsheet.

Planning your spread sheet.

a) Work out how much students in your class are likely to spend in a month.    This will be the total weekly amount of spending for the class multiplied by 80.

b) Work out how much you are likely to spend on stock for your first month of business.  (You will need to do another small table for this.)

c) Deduct your costs from your income in order to  work out your monthly profit.

d) Multiply your monthly profit by 9 in order to work out your annual profit.
