The Task
You are involved in the management of a school canteen and you have been asked to design a new weekly menu. The menu must be affordable and varied which means that students must be able to buy what is on offer and there must not be the same items on offer for every day of the week. You will have to include some less popular items.
Before you design this menu you decide to do a survey of the class in order to find out what they like to eat. You have drawn up a list of 20 to 30 items that you will be able to provide in your canteen.
Use tables in an office application to create a survey form which should include all of the items that you want to ask members of your class about.
Create a simple database to analyse the results of this survey and input the survey results. Sometimes survey results can be rather unusual and unpredictable and if this is the case with your survey click on the survey results link and use these results instead of your own.
Use database queries to show possible popular and unpopular menu choices.
Copy and paste the database table into a spreadsheet and use bar graphs for each category of food to show the popularity of each item.
Contrast and compare both methods of analysing the results and state which method you prefer.
Write out a five day canteen menu that has been informed by your survey, your database and your spreadsheet.
Extra Task. Design an appealing A4 poster that includes a blank space in the middle which can be used to write in the menu for a particular day. Make up a restaurant style name for this canteen if you want to. Click on the example below.
