Autumn

For seven weeks in the first half the of the Autumn term Year 4 are learning how to produce complex word processed documents that use images, information from spreadsheets as well as tables in word.   They should learn that documents are meant to have different purposes and they need to use a broader range of software features in order to make these documents fit for their purpose.  They will work on a club membership form, a French word search and a crossword puzzle.

In the second half of the term they will be using the internet to plan a low cost holiday to Edinburgh and in order to do this they will be looking for low cost accommodation, air fairs and entertainment.   After they have gathered this information they will use a spreadsheet and word to present this information so that they communicate the times of departure, flight details, hotel destinations and local attractions.

Lent

During the first half of the Lent term they will be exploring combining graphic objects in order to produce a shop front design.  They will develop a name for a  florist and they will produce a decorative visualisation of this name using a vector drawing application.   They will use a digital painting application to create a floral motif.  These elements will be combined together with other drawn objects to produce a completed design in PowerPoint.

In the second half of the Lent term they will be learning how to use our Navaho email system by sending emails to each other in order to develop a story.  They will be learning how to enter in an e-mail address, send an email to more than one recipient, attach files to an email and save emails in a draft form in order to finish writing the email at the start of the next lesson.

Summer

In the first half of the Summer term the boys will be exploring filters and queries using records about the Monarchy.  They will also be using spreadsheet formulas and scatter graphs to analyse this information and draw conclusions from this statistical information.

In the second half of the Summer term they will be exploring web authoring by creating a visual guide of the school site.   They will use hotspots on an image to show a close up section of that image with a comment about that section.  They will need to learn how to manage image and webpage files and create working hyperlinks.
